Cultural resource studies for mining operations and involving historical mining resources are rapidly becoming a Lone Mountain trademark. Our team includes specialists who have supervised cultural resource investigations on several types of mines, including uranium, potash, coal, silver, and gold mines, as well as gravel and rock quarries. These projects were carried out for a number of different mining companies, such as New Concept Mining Company, Pittston Nevada Gold Company, Copar Mining Company, Cyprus-Amax, and Utah Department of Natural Resources Division of Oil, Gas and Mining. In addition, we have performed work for federal agencies on mine grants, claims, and historical mining resources now under their jurisdiction. Members of our staff are experts in historical archaeology, prehistoric archaeology, industrial archaeology, historic mining technology, and mining history and are therefore able to adequately evaluate mining resources from a historical standpoint, as well as understand the undertakings being proposed by modern mining companies and the health and safety issues that often surround these projects. Our staff has performed projects for mining companies and involving historical mining resources in a number of states throughout the West including Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, and Utah, and our capabilities extend into other western states.

Our supervisors have worked together to implement survey of tens of thousands of linear miles for utility, seismic, and infrastructure clients. Consequently, they are experts at the often difficult process of balancing the client’s options for avoiding sites, treating them through well designed testing programs, or determining which sites will require more intensive treatment. By coordinating closely with clients and regulators, we provide effective solutions that ensure clients are able to maintain project schedules while minimizing expense and undesirable exposure.
